Beginning post before a long relapse

I want to share with you my experience with quitting drinking. I have been an alcoholic probably 20 years although I never got a post card letting me know when I got my official membership. I am going cold turkey and not affliated with AA. I think they are a good program but I have reached a point where I can stop or die so I think that is enough motivation. I think this will be an interesting transition in my life and so wanted to share it to hopefully encourage or serve as a cautionary tale to people who find themselves in my situation. I'm also expecting some of what happens next will be entertaining. My first sober day was supposed to be yesterday July, 6th 2015 but opened up what I thought was a bottle of mineral water and took a mouth full of Corona which I spit out and gave away. I feel the effects of detoxing already but I will go more into that later. I will end this post saying I had a lot of fun drinking and will cherish most of the memories. I do regret some actions influenced by alcohol that I wish had never happened but amazingly I have kept my family and friendships  . Now is a new day and the uncertainty of how to relearn how to live and enjoy life sober is my biggest obstacle. I am excited to see what fills the void where alcohol previously was and what new experiences life show me when everyday doesn't involve trying to get to the bottom of a bottle.
